Greynolds Park is an urban park in North Miami Beach that was once a 249 acre rock quarry. The park is named after A.O. Greynolds, the head of Ojus Rock Company, who deeded the land over to Miami-Dade County Parks Department in 1936. It has a relatively intact hardwood hammock and mangrove forest. The hammock at Greynolds is one of the last well-protected natural areas of northern Miami-Dade County.
The Tequesta Indians used the Oleta River, which runs along the east side of the park, as a source of transportation. In the years following, the Seminole Indians used the land along side the river as a trading post and a source of supplies for early Miami-Dade County settlers. Later, Seminole Indians and now eco-tours are offered of the rookery, mangrove boardwalk, observation mound, paved path and historical boathouse.
The parks’ woods are lined with several hiking trails that lead to grand oaks, tropical plants, wild flowers, colorful butterflies, and a host of creatures including owls, bats, and raccoons. Park settings and unique facilities, including beaches, are accessible and affordable for team building, meetings and recreational events for kids. There is a huge playground, shelters for parties, kayaking, camping and canoe launching are also to be found. Kayak, canoe and paddle boat rentals are available on weekends and holidays. It provides a wide variety of distinct settings and amenities to suit everyone’s needs.
Greynolds Park operates from sunrise to sunset. Office hours are from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday to Sunday. Boathouse is by reservation only, you may contact 305-945-3425 for more details
