That event has led to the conversion of the hotel to an Army Air Forces Regional Hospital and later became the first site of the University of Miami’s School of Medicine and a veteran’s hospital until 1968. It was until in 1983 when the City of Coral Gables fully restored the hotel and reopened on December 31, 1987 as a luxurious hotel as it is today. Proudly, it is one of the U.S National Historic Landmark.
