Miami-Dade County is blessed for having paradise of botanical garden that nourishes, preserves and nurtures the nature. These paradises benefit the county through cultivation and education of plants. The Montgomery Botanical Garden is another legacy associated with Fairchild Tropical Garden both founded by Robert and Nell Montgomery. This botanical garden is on the 120-acre land of Coral Gables located southwest of Downtown Miami.
Colonel Robert H. Montgomery is the founder of The Montgomery Botanical Garden for his love of plants. After his death in 1953, his wife Nell continued his plant collections and the estate which she soon has provided a site for research investigations. She has dedicated all her life to the development of both Montgomery Botanical Garden and Fairchild Tropical Garden which was soon maintained by directors and staff after her death. Until now, Montgomery Botanical Garden is a private, nonprofit botanical museum of palms and cycads around the world contributing to the development of science, education, conservation, and horticultural knowledge of botanical focusing mainly on palms and cycads. The botanical garden’s mission is presented to the general public through workshops, lectures, publications, and tours of the plant collections.
