History has it that this castle was made by only one man, Edward Leedskalnin, but no one has ever discovered how he does it. Ed was only 5 foot tall and weighed a 100 pounds but has managed to put together such marvelous architecture single-handedly for more than 20 years. How did he do it? There were theories on how Ed did it but the mystery of the Coral Castle remained a secret because Ed has brought that secret with him to his grave. The Coral Castle is all made of stone that he used to call it “Rock Gate Park” which he dedicated it to her most loved woman who jilted him the day before their wedding . Although he worked privately during the on-going construction of the castle, he opened it to the public for a 10-cent tour. He has lived the rest of his life in his castle and made money from the tours and selling pamphlets. In 1951 he got so ill and placed a sign on the front gate that says “Going to the Hospital”. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1984.
The Coral Castle is a work of a great artist and now one of the tourists spot in the land of Dade County Florida. A day is worth spending in this spot. You can bring along foods for a picnic but make sure to clean it up. Word and images are not enough to justify the marvel of this such wonder. See it for yourself. The Coral Casle is open from Mondays-Thursdays, Sundays from 8:00 AM – 6:00 PM and 8:00AM-8:00PM Fridays-Saturdays.
