Fort Lauderdale Swap Shop
Swap Shop is the 2nd largest South Florida attraction as tourists from US and Canada as well as from other countries flock to this cheerful place in South Florida. Fort Lauderdale Swap Shop is the first original Swap Shops in South Florida and is operating for 50 years now (since 1963). Two other Swap Shops are in Tampa and Lake Worth. It features the largest Drive-In movie theater and Flea Market in the world.
It was started by Betty and Preston Henn in November 1963. It was originally “Thunderbird Drive-On Movie Theater” with only one screen. It was only in 1966 that the idea of Flea Market came to a realization but only opens for the weekend. This progress is a springboard of new and small businesses into the entrepreneurship. Continuous innovation from food vendors, local entertainers, circus, video game arcades and Dancing Waters made Swap Shop the landmark business in South Florida.
